New Book Now Available

My new book, Mouth Care Comes Clean, was just released!

Mouth Care Comes Clean challenges the dental mantra that says if we want to avoid cavities and gum disease we need to “brush, floss and go for dental cleanings”.

This traditional advice may seem obvious and a good idea – but I challenge it as:

  • Inadequate
  • Confusing
  • Inappropriate for someone with serious dental or general health problems

Today we know so much more about the danger of ignoring the Oral-Systemic link, and since the 1960s there have been many, rarely discussed studies – looking at this connection between systemic and mouth health and the science of cavities and gum disease.

I wrote my first 200-page book – Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye because I was frustrated that people thought sugar was the only problem for teeth. Mouth dryness and acidity were never discussed in dental or hygiene school at that time. In addition, it appeared few people knew that a cavity could naturally heal – without the need for a dental filling, and all we needed to do was promote mouth conditions to encourage this mineralization process to occur.

This unfortunate void in professional educational continues today. Mouth acidity may now be part of the curriculum but few dental professionals have been instructed in the biology of useful bacteria that contribute to mouth health. Anyone with cavities, sensitive teeth or gum problems needs to nurture this helpful probiotic population and use strategies to support a healthy oral biofilm and a strong and diverse mouth ecology.

Without the foundation of healthy biofilm, dental problems will continue and patients will consequently endure a cascade of treatments as they age, often with escalating expenses and the repair of existing work that become more invasive and frequent over time.

I wrote Mouth Care Comes Clean as part of my life’s mission to empower patients and help them enjoy improved oral health. This book explains the latest in mouth science, how to figure out your mouth health, when to agree or refuse a filling, and new ideas about routine dental cleanings. As always, I encourage everyone to use simple strategies and over-the-counter products that improve mouth health and help maintain it – for life.

In the book, I reveal how to:

  • Stop and reverse cavities and gum disease
  • Use diet and digestive health to influence saliva quality and promote tooth and gum healing
  • Enjoy xylitol to control acidic damage and sensitivity
  • End the discomfort of dry mouth and gum recession
  • Avoid damage caused by flossing
  • Evaluate sealants and their potential dangers
  • Schedule the best time for dental appointments
  • Learn the dangers of artificial whitening and how to naturally whiten your teeth

I hope you and your family will benefit from my new book and that you will finally, enjoy the mouth health you deserve!

Does the same steps work for those who have implants? A family member has severe gum disease and the Dr. wants to “redo” the implants. It seems that even after the work is done, there’s always more work to be done!
    Thanks in advance!!

    • A dentist has NO POWER to improve mouth health. They can fix and fill and place implants – but if you have gum disease – then extracting a tooth does nothing to change the mouth’s ecology. The mouth’s ecology is bad and so yes, the next implant will fail too. (It is the same with cavities and fillings. Dentists call the problem “recurrent decay” – but it is simply that the original cavity “disease” that was never eliminated).
Periodontal disease can be improved by the use of my Complete Mouth Care System and xylitol. However, our body’s immune system plays a big part in periodontal healing – so digestive health and nutrition must also be addressed – at the same time.
My Four Keys to oral health are how to approach this – http://www.DrEllie.com
Bad habits like soda drinking, or smoking slow progress – but we can work around them to some degree. I’d be happy to help in any way, but first I’d determine if this family memeber WANTS to fix his or her gum disease problem. If not – they must realize implants are not the answer, that periodontal disease can affect general health and so it may be better to extract and decide on dentures 🙁
