Dear Dr. Ellie:
We noticed that you recommend disinfecting your toothbrush daily. What’s the best way to do that?
Thanks!

Hi A,
Studies from the 1970s looked at a toothbrush down a microscope and it was gross!
Studies from U of Arizona show that toilet bacteria can travel in the air in a plume that can infect brushes in a bathroom.
Some people may be better advised to clean their teeth in the kitchen.
Swishing the head of the toothbrush in Listerine – then rinsing it off under running water is a very efficient way to clean it. To be certain the outcome is perfect – store the brush so that the bristles can dry completely between uses – bacteria die when they dry!!
Hope this helps.
Ellie
