Rinsing Between Mouth Wash

Hi,

I was just browsing your blog and realized I may not be following the program correctly. Here is what I am currently doing:

  • rinse with closys
  • brush teeth and gum gently with recommended crest toothpaste
  • rinse with tap water
  • rinse with original listerine
  • rinse with ACT

After reading your blog, it seems the correct sequence is the above without the water rinse after brushing, is that right?:

  • rinse with closys
  • brush teeth and gum gently with recommended crest toothpaste
  • rinse with original listerine
  • rinse with ACT

Hi E

You have noticed a fairly important element of this process.

The fluoride out of the toothpaste is going to PROTECT your teeth FROM the Listerine rinse.

If you wash it off – you will lose this protection and potentially do a little more “acidic” damage to your enamel.

If your mouth is healthy, and your teeth are not damaged, this may not be of much or any consequence.

The real problems are for people whose teeth are sensitive, already damaged or who have dry mouth or a compromised immunity.

These instructions of mine are given to help EVEN the most challenged mouths.

Don’t worry that you have done anything wrong!

But yes, give up the water rinse between the steps.

The only place for water is to wet your toothbrush before applying a “rice-grain-pea-size” amount of Crest Cavity Protection paste to your brush!!

Thanks for your message and I would be interested to know if you feel the difference in a few days!

Is it ok to rinse with a mix of the crest w/water, and then put the crest paste directly on my teeth before using the listerine?
