Dr. Ellie:
I am 32 years old, and am undergoing Orthodontic Treatment for the second time. I will also be undergoing double jaw orthognathic surgery in a little while as well. What do you recommend for a tooth care system? I have also heard that my enamel is starting to thin from my teeth grinding as well.
Thanks,
B
Hi B,
I absolutely recommend my system of care for you!
Before any surgery ( from Oral to Cardiac) it is vital to “clean” your mouth and begin with ultimate oral health.
Using the rinses I recommend and xylitol will give you this status in a couple for months – and help you limit inflammation from the surgery.
I also recommend fresh pineapple before the surgery.
This tip was something I learned while working in Europe in the 1970s.
I was the main extractor of wisdom teeth in the office – and putting patients on a fresh pineapple diet was protocol.
Today you can go to http://www.Dole.com and see the reasons why pineapple helps post operative healing (go to the “Nutrition Institute Landing page” and allow this to open, then where it says “find an article” type in “Post Op Pineapple” .This page should list a bunch of articles – the first one is from 2005….check it out!
Please let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you – but yes, Zellies and xylitol are going to be your friend through this venture (especially during the times when cleaning your teeth may be difficult)!
Best Wishes,
Ellie
