Estimated healing time for cavities?

Hi Dr. Ellie,

I have known about your wonderful system for a couple of years but have failed to use it consistently enough to totally eradicate the s. mutans bacteria.  Today I went to the dentist and he found three cavities.  They were so small that he had to use the Diagnodent to make sure they were in fact cavities.  They are on teeth #13 and #14; two occlusal cavities and one lingual.  Two of them came up as 20’s on the Diagnodent; the other was 22 (I don’t know which cavities had which readings though).  I do not want fillings in these teeth if I can help it.  I’m sure everyone is different, but could you give me a rough idea of how long these might take to heal on average?  Thanks so much!

PS – It may not sound so good, but just three tiny cavities in the 2 or 3 years I’ve been using your system is actually an improvement for me!  So even used inconsistently, your system still helps a lot.  I can’t wait to see what happens when I start using it correctly every single day!  I’m so grateful to you for making this information about healing cavities available to anyone who seeks it.

Hi J,

We have to make sure you are having 5 exposures to xylitol each day!! Strive for FIVE times a day it can be a mint, some Zellies gum or even granular xylitol dissolved in water or eat it from a spoon but after meals is the best time to have this. More than five is better the more the merrier as they say!

Next you must get the correct ingredients for my rinse routine (CLOSYS) (CREST Cavity Protection toothpaste) (A CLEAN TOOTHBRUSH) (Listerine) rinse followed immediately by (ACT ANTI-CAVITY RINSE).

The mouth rinse kit we sell on the website will get you started with everything you need and an instruction book.

This kit is $48 and we offer free shipping for orders over $50 ( ….get an extra tooth brush).
How much does a filling cost ??? Just a thought!

If you do exactly these things cavities of this kind have healed in six months for other people. BUT this is like a cake recipe the ingredients are exact and the method must be exact also.

I wish you the best and am confident you can make these cavities go away if you have sufficient xylitol and use the rinses twice every day always last thing before bed!

Hi again, Dr. Ellie. I am the one who sent you this question. I also would like to ask you about something else please 🙂 I have recently begun clenching my teeth on the same side of my mouth where I have these cavities. I've started wearing a nightguard (which seems to help very little–I am actually clenching worse and worse). Anyway, do you think my clenching will worsen my cavities or keep them from healing, especially the occlusal ones? I know clenching puts a lot of physical stress on your teeth, so I'm worried they won't heal in this condition. Thanks again!

Everyone clenches their teeth! We do this more when we are stressed – but healthy teeth can sustain tooth grinding just fine!Problem start if you have mouth dryness or mouth acidity. Most often it is that stress makes our mouths drier and acidic.Without enough saliva – teeth begin to wear – like a car engine without oil lubrication – teeth erode as they touch. With acidic saliva – teeth soften – so they wear away more quickly…..When the problem is stress – teeth may be damaged by the mouth dryness and acidity that it causes. How do you deal with stress? Ha! I am a dentist – but I can make suggestions if you like!As for your teeth – I suggest a specific group of mouth rinses and lots of small frequent exposures to xylitol. By building the strength of your teeth – they will resist the damage of tooth grinding – even during stressful times! Here is a link: 7 Best Stress-Fighting Foods: Ellie Phillips DDS To: Ellie Phillips Sent: Thu, August 26, 2010 11:27:14 AMSubject: Fw: [Ask Dr. Ellie] New comment on Estimated healing time for cavities?.
