Hi Dr. Ellie,
I’m a 33 year old male and I’ve been using your system religiously since the beginning of December after having to have expensive dental work done. My main problem over the years has been cavities developing between my teeth that have required numerous fillings, and 2 root canals/crowns.
I’ve always been a big soda and iced tea drinker, but since starting your system I’ve limited my consumption of these to only a few hours before I brush my teeth in the evening, and always make sure to periodically sip xylitol after drinks.
The thing that worries me currently is that when I wake up in the morning, I have acidic saliva, as confirmed by PH test strip. I sip xylitol disolved in water 10-15 times per day, including right before I go to sleep and when I wake up in the morning, but I don’t wake up during the night.
In other words, after brushing my teeth and taking one last sip of xylitol before I turn out the light (about 2 hours after the ACT rinse), I have about 8 hours every night where my teeth are subjected to my acidic saliva without xylitol to counteract it. Does this fact at all negate the effects of your system?
Thanks,
J
Hi J,
Thanks for your message I understand your concerns, and I can relate.
Mouth pH is very interesting and you should keep checking yours you may find that it varies and that it is not always the same.
I have discovered ways that to increase my pH I know that diet has an affect, relaxation doing hobbies I enjoy, any general destressing can help a lot.
I take more walks outside in the sunshine now because I can see my pH improving when I do this.
It would be remiss of me to focus only on your teeth you need to work with your diet, exercise, etc. to try and change your mouth pH and therefore your body pH.
I’m glad you’re sipping xylitol throughout the day. This is excellent.
I would, however, recommend you finish your day with the mouth rinse system.
I’d rather see you sip your xylitol then do the complete mouth care system immediately before you go to bed.
The combination of rinses in my system are exactly what you need.
The Listerine mouth rinse followed immediately by ACT will increase the acid resistance of your tooth enamel.
It’s a bit like taking your teeth for a “workout” at the gym!!
As you squish the Listerine between your teeth it is cleaning them, and preparing the enamel for the final rinse.
Make sure that you go immediately from Listerine to ACT ( no water in between!)
The final rinse the ACT is going to re-mineralize developed new extra hard, extra acid resistance, crystals on the outside of your teeth.
Even after you spit out this rinse, a residue remains on your teeth and will continue to harden your teeth for approximately 8 hours while you sleep.
The extra resistance of the enamel will protect your teeth until you wake in the morning.
This is why you should rinse last thing before you go to bed at night you will see an amazing difference.
If you’re saliva were not acidic I would not be so concerned.
You asked an excellent question and I thank you for it.
Best wishes,
Ellie
