Toothpaste with Xylitol

Dear Dr. Ellie:

I have just bought toothpaste with xylitol, but it’s the last ingredient. Do you think it is enough. It is called Biotene (for dry mouth). Can you recommend another toothpaste that I can buy here in Calgary, Canada

A Canadian

Dear Canadian

I recommend Crest Original toothpaste – even for people with dry mouth my recommendations do not change. You will find dissolving granular xylitol in water a great help – sip this xylitol water through the day and night, as needed. Zellies mints and gum stimulate a nice comfortable flow of healthy saliva to protect your teeth – you can use them after meals and even at night.

I suggest you use the complete mouth care system as I recommend it.

You will see a quick improvement in your oral health. Closys in Canada is called “Retardex” and in place of ACT you can substitute “Fluoriguard”.

Many of the toothpastes with xylitol are not nearly as effective to protect your teeth as the use of this mouth rinse system. Many pastes with xylitol are too abrasive or do not have enough xylitol to be of use.

Good luck and please let me know if you have other questions,
