I have a question about a spot on my lip. I have been sick with a cold then a sinus infection. I went to my doctor and was given a prescription for Amoxicillin 875mg for my sinus infection. After I took my first pill, I noticed a little bit of pain on the upper side of my lip close to the corner of my mouth. I went to investigate and noticed a small white spot that was really red around the edges and it hurts like crazy. It hurts like a pimple when one first forms. I do get canker sores every few months. Some small and some not so small. Is this just a pimple, canker sore or some sort of reaction to the Amoxicillan?

Without a visual I really cannot help you identify this problem. It sounds a lot like a “cold sore” which is a lesion related to the herpes virus.
There are not many solutions once a cold sore has taken hold – some over the counter creams help if applied at the first sign of pain. I would advise you to make sure you are having good food, enough rest and necessary vitamins.
To protect yourself from canker sores, I recommend taking a close look at your toothbrush, your brand of toothpaste and any questionable molds in your bathroom sink!
Toothbrushes need to be cleaned daily in a Listerine, rinsed out under running water and allowed to completely air-dry head side up in a cup. Avoid toothpaste containing triclosan (Colgate Total) baking soda or peroxide ( all seem to contribute to mouth problems).
Crest Pro Health is a paste linked to mouth sores and mouth sensitivity.
I suggest using Crest Regular paste – the original formula – without added chemicals or sparkles!
Eating 100 percent xylitol gum or mints ( from a health food store) will help protect your mouth from bacteria and mold infections.
