Current Regime and your Complete System

Dear Dr. Ellie,

Thank you for your informative site. I ordered and have received your Complete Mouth Care System. (Fast delivery, which I appreciate!) I am eager to get on with the program, but I have plenty of product remaining from my current regime. Would you please comment on the indiviual items I use? Also, what item(s) from your System do you recommend I immediately substitute and/or add? Many thanks in advance.

Currently I brush 2x daily with an Oral-B “Indicator” toothbrush. (Compact head, soft bristle). I use Ultrabrite toothpaste (Consumer Reports’ top paste. It scored best in stain removal and was only moderately abrasive. Contains sodium fluoride, no peroxide. Unfortunately your Crest reg. paste was not included in the CR article. Colgate reg. was, scored low in abrasiveness, was fair at stain removal. Also recommended was Aim gel low in abrasiveness, good at stain removal.)

Finish with a long rinse/swish with The Natural Dentist AntiCavity Fluoride Rinse.

Active: Sodium Fluoride 0.05%

Inactives: Purified Water, Vegetable Glycerin, Aloe Vera Gel, Sodium Phosphate Monobasic, Xylitol, Natural Flavors, Olivamidopropyl Betaine, Citric Acid, Graperuit Seed Extract, Menthol.

I chew Spry xylitol gum throughout the day.

Thank you again. I wish my parents had had your information so that I might have been spared all those cavities! (Haven’t had one in years since I gave up sugars and starches and adopted the above regime.)

Kind regards,

I am delighted to hear about people with great oral health.
You already use xylitol that is great!

Remember that if you ever find yourself under stress or with a dry mouth for some reason (this can be diet, climate, sickness or hormonal related ) make sure that you consume at least 6-7 grams a day xylitol. You can mix and match the “application”gum/mints/dissolved in water/ used in foods etc.

Stress and dry mouth can greatly and suddenly increase your risk for dental disease so use xylitol to fight back and resist damage.

I like your brush, and the Natural Dentist rinse also appears to be working for you.
I do not have any comment on your toothpaste it seems an option and not harmful.

My comment is: make sure your mouth is pH neutral before you brush. If you brush your teeth in an acidic mouth (maybe acidic drink before bed or your own saliva may be acidic) you can abrade away some valuable enamel from the outside of your teeth. To determine if you are at risk for this you could take a pH test to ensure that your mouth is neutral or you could use Closys as a first stage before you brush. If your gums ever bleed I would encourage you to use the Closys and if this does not correct the problem I would suggest you go fully onto my program until the problem is resolved.

I do not know for sure how the various components of your routine interact with one another.
I have recommended (and used) my system for so many years I have total confidence in it.
My guess is that you will be fine. You have obviously understood the products that cause concern.

None of these are in your system and it seems to be working for you.

My desire is not to change what is working but give assistance to those who have problems with their oral health.

I think you may enjoy my book that will be for sale this summer. It will detail why I recommend certain products and help you judge your products yourself. Another idea try my system for two weeks (put yours away) and then determine which “system” makes your mouth feel the best!

I would be interested in the result of this dental product challenge!

Thanks for your message,
Wishing you continued oral health,
