Dr. Ellie,
Yes, I’m using your entire system!
I’ve noticed my teeth already look better and my breath is much fresher, and this is only day 3! It did take me a little while to realize that original Crest is the one that says “Cavity Protection”. It’s very clear if you pay attention to the picture(s) on your website, but it wasn’t as clear from just reading your blog. I’m sure that your system is going to benefit me greatly. I’ve had pretty good oral health for the past few years, but recently started allergy medication and asthma inhalers. My teeth have been feeling much more sensitive with a bit of pain every now and then. I know that I have at least one spot on a molar that could easily become a cavity without intervention. Luckily I have a very conservative dentist who will wait to see the results of your program, rather than start drilling immediately. It’s my goal to never have another filling. I’ll definitely keep you updated on my progress! Thanks for all of the great information!
B
PS – I came across your site via a blog called “Wise Bread”. I wish I had found it sooner!
Hi B,
I am so happy that you are trying xylitol! It does not matter how you use the granular xylitol.
It is not necessary to dissolve in water and perfectly fine to let the grains dissolve in your mouth.
A one pound bag of granular xylitol should give you about 112 teaspoons and all you need between 1-2 teaspoons a day for oral health. Xylitol is most effective if it is eaten in small amounts at the end of meals, snacks and drinks so it would be at least 4-5 times a day. You may want an old “salt spoon” (a tiny teaspoon) to dispense a quarter of a teaspoon each time.
This means that a bag should be enough for 2-3 months according to my calculations!
If you are eating it off a spoon it is best to allow the grains to dissolve in your mouth “wipe” the sweet solutions over your teeth as the crystals dissolve.
Mmmmm delicious!
You have virtually made your own mints! Are you using the mouth rinses I recommend? If not, I would at least urge you to consider Crest Original Toothpaste and rinse with ACT anti-cavity rinse before bed. The xylitol and ACT work in harmony to protect and beautify your teeth.
Keep in touch and please let me know if you have any other questions,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Xylitol!
Ellie
