Oral Health and CWT System Questions

Dr. Ellie . . .We have a couple questions about your system. If you have time, please answer.

1. How long do you soak your toothbrush in Listerine to clean it? And how long do you rinse it in your mouth?

2. After the A.C.T., We’ve has been rinsing with water. Is that okay or not? Should you wait for awhile before you rinse with water? How long?

3. After using Closys, do you rinse that off with water or just go on and brush?

4. If you want to floss, where should that be done in your program? I have food particles that don’t come out with brushing or rinsing.

5. You said to make the Xylitol rinse as 2 tsp of Xylitol in a cup of water like tea and then put it in the refrigerator. Do you heat the water like tea before adding the Xylitol? After?

Hi G,

1. How long do you soak your toothbrush in Listerine to clean it?
There does not appear to be a length of time needed to clean the brush. The cleaning effect is from dipping and moving the bristles of the brush in the Listerine. The Listerine loosens the debris, which is then rinsed off the brush during the rinsing step.

Dip the head of the brush in a little cup with just enough Listerine to cover it. (If you use a small Dixie cup you will need less than a cap full of Listerine for this.) Jiggle the head of the brush in the Listerine and move it in circular motions to loosen the bacteria for about 8 seconds.

Now hold the head of the brush under running water to rinse off. Store your brush in a container that allows the bristles of the brush to dry out completely.

And how long do you rinse Listerine in your mouth?
Thirty seconds is the recommended length of time (stated on Listerine bottles). Listerine has research to show that rinsing twice a day for 30 seconds will be as useful for teeth as flossing. Listerine works by ridding the mouth of immature(undeveloped) plaque bacteria. These are spherical bacteria that start to grow on teeth within a few hours of cleaning your teeth.

These spherical bacteria are not harmful at this stage, but quickly grow to become undesirable bacteria (a process that takes about 14-18 hours). This is why keeping immature bacteria away (with Listerine) every 12 hours will control plaque on teeth. If you read the label on the Listerine bottle is clearly states that it kills “the germs that cause plaque to form”.

2. After the A.C.T., we’ve has been rinsing with water. Is that okay or not?
ACT works particularly well because the dilute sodium fluoride in a great “coating-liquid “.
This attribute helps it to flow into cracks, pits and crevices in teeth( the places that a toothbrush cannot reach and which are the first places to decay).

Sodium fluoride behaves as a catalyst helping minerals ( from your saliva) go into the outer layers of your teeth. The effect will only last while ACT is in contact with your teeth. The longer that ACT is in contact with your teeth, the stronger they will become, the shinier and “better” they will look. Once the ACT is gone it’s over!

Should you wait for awhile before you rinse with water? How long?
If you wash ACT off your teeth the benefits are over.
If you must rinse, wait as long as you can at least half an hour longer if possible.
If you spit out two, three or four times a residue will remain in the crevices and pits of your teeth. Studies showed that the ACT residue can be of benefit and working for several hours working to strengthen and protect your teeth.

I would not rinse with water since you rinse this benefit off your teeth.Just spit out multiple times. If you hate the taste of ACT eat a Zellie mint!

3. After using Closys, do you rinse that off with water or just go on and brush?
Just rinse with Closys, spit out and go on to brush. The Closys seems to “lift” debris from around teeth. The quicker you can start brushing around your teeth the better.

4. If you want to floss, where should that be done in your program?
If you want to floss I would floss first even before the Closys then you can get going on the rinses and rest of the system without stopping

5. You said to make the Xylitol rinse as 2 tsp of Xylitol in a cup of water like tea and then put it in the refrigerator.

Do you heat the water like tea before adding the Xylitol? After? It does not matter if you heat the water first or after. The problem with cold water is that granular xylitol will not dissolve. It needs warm liquids to dissolve.

Once in solution the xylitol will remain in solution and make an excellent drink that you can use to protect teeth after meals or when your mouth is dry. This liquid is a great option for anyone who cannot chew, or who snacks a lot or for kids at school. It makes washing your teeth after eating an easy thing to do. You will love the way it makes your teeth feel.

I hope these answer your questions.
Please let me know if any of these answers are not clear enough.

Thanks for your interest,
Best Wishes,

Ellie
