A friend of mine is pregnant and having some gum issues, so I told her about the xylitol mints, gum, etc. She was already using Listerine. What else should she be doing?

Dear CM,
I hope she is not using Listerine on its own. Listerine is so acidic although it kills bacteria in the mouth, the acidity sets up a chain of harmful reactions in pregnant and older women’s mouths. It is important that when Listerine is used that the mouth is brought back to a neutral pH. I recommend following Listerine with ACT.
