Hi Dr. Ellie,
I have an infant and I would like to put xylitol in her milk how much would you recommend per day (teaspoons)?
Thanks!
KS
Hi KS,
Thank you for your question.
For infants it would be my suggestion to use about 2 grams of xylitol to sweeten milk ( about half a teaspoon full).
Our human bodies make around 15 grams of xylitol each day.
Xylitol has the added ability to help absorption of calcium to the body.
An infant would only need the xylitol for sweetening foods or drinks there would be no dental advantages until she or he has teeth.
www.Spiffies.com is a great company that sells xylitol baby tooth wipes.
They are very knowledgeable and can give you a lot of additional information about infant care and answers about xylitol.
The owner is a wonderful pediatrician whom I have met and admire.
Thank you again and please let me know if I can help you in any way,
