Dear Dr. Ellie:
I am a Public Health Nurse in Arizona and until recently, I purchased Koolerz bubblegum for people in our prenatal classes and gave it out when I did clinics applying fluoride varnish to children’s teeth. Do you have samples of your Zellies gum, mints or sweetener that I can purchase for these groups, as well as people with diabetes? They would need to be in their own packages (which is why Koolerz was ideal for passing out to classes). Do you know why the company is no longer making the gum? I heard about you and Zellies and I love the work that you are doing.
M in AZ
Thank you so much for your e-mail. I am familiar with Koolerz ( a Hershey product) but I don’t know what happened to it or why they discontinued it.
It has been tough getting the message of xylitol out to the public and dentists generally seem a bit confused often recommending products like Trident that have insufficient xylitol and too much artificial sweetener that give gastric problems.
I have some blister-pack gum (a sheet of twelve in a pack). This would be a good hand out for your classes. It is actually produced by the original company that produced the gum for the research in Belize so I know it works!
My products are sweetened with 100 percent birch tree xylitol from Finland and although the taste does not last very long the benefits are amazing.
I have the gum in mint and fruit. I also have the breath mints in mint and fruit. More flavors to come soon!
We are creating a power point presentation on our website that will be available for you to have as an educational tool this should be on our site by the end of July. I also have some brochures about xylitol and also about Zellies products whichever you would find most useful.
It is exciting to see a State so far ahead of the curve with oral health. New York is a hard sell but California and Arizona seem to be leading the way! I would love to work with you on this!
Thanks again for your interest,
Ellie Phillips DDS
